School is Out, STEM is Into Sports

November 20th, 2017

Kids can come to Hackground when Howard County Schools are dismissing early for a fun afternoon that will combine sports and STEM!

First they will design and build their own fitness tracker that will be their’s to keep.  They will learn about the engineering design process and how sensors can be used to monitor heart rate, motion and body temperature.  They will see how these change when they exercise.  Students will use their creativity to design wearable technology that they can bring home after the camp.

Next, they will form teams to make a wrestling robot using supplied LEGO Mindstorms kits with special SuGO add-ones.  What is SuGo?  It combines the excitement of LEGO with sumo wrestling.  Once the bots are built it will be time to hit the competition ring for a fun filled tournament.  Who’s bot will rule the ring?

For more details on SuGO please see sugobot.com.

No experience with robotics or programming is necessary.
